My name is Carmen Triana, I’m 30 years old and originally from Colombia. I studied photography at the Institute of Photographic Studies of Catalonia (IEFC) in Barcelona, and I currently live in Berlin.

I’ve been working in both photography and film for over a decade. My journey started with photography, and after exploring visual storytelling through still images, I ventured into filmmaking. I directed a short film, and now I’m in the process of creating my first feature film.

What are your main themes?

My work revolves around the small miracles in life—those delicate moments that often go unnoticed. I’m fascinated by the subtle, shared connections between humans and nature. My work tries to capture the beauty in what is commonly overlooked, and to bridge the intimate with the universal.

I was honored with the New Vanguard Photography Prize and also received recognition from Aperture Foundation in collaboration with Document Journal.

Who are your influences ?

I draw inspiration from various sources. Filmmaker Jonas Mekas for his poetic documentation of life, Thích Nhất Hạnh for his spiritual wisdom, the monumental works of Anselm Kiefer, and Bill Viola for his exploration of time, space, and human emotion.

Your favourite quote:

“To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.”
— William Blake

Short analysis of your work “Rita” :

Rita is an exploration of time and its relationship to nature. It symbolizes creation, extinction, and rebirth—a reflection of geological and human life cycles. Both nature and humans carry an inner world and an outer world, mirroring each other’s existence. Through this piece, I aim to create a symbolic bridge between the spiritual journey of a person and the cycle of nature. It asks the question: can we truly discover ourselves by immersing in the natural world?
